My 2.5 year old taught me the importance of saying goodbye. He won't let his family or friends leave without giving them a hug, high five, knuckles or combination of the three. He always insists on saying goodbye at least once. He will often tell the person "I will come to your house next time." Even though he is leaving said person's house.
His sweet demeanor has reminded me that it is important to say goodbye for a couple of reasons:
You don't always know when you might see someone again.
You often remember the times someone doesn't say goodbye, not the times they do.
For my son, he know what it feels like when you don't get to say goodbye to someone and are not sure when you will see them again. This is why we should never forget to say goodbye. It is a small gesture that means a lot.
